Paco Balaguer

Post Doc. Magnetic Tweezers Technique

Francisco Balaguer Pérez obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry in 2013 at the University of Granada. After that, he moved to Madrid to study the Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

He obtained the PhD in Molecular Biosciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2014-2019) under the supervisión of Dr. Fernando Díaz Pereira (CIB-CSIC). The PhD Project was focused on the biochemical, cellular and structural characterization of antitumoral compounds targeting tubulin. During the PhD, Francisco moved to the Paul Scherrer Institut (Switzerland) for a four months short stay at the laboratory of Prof. Michel Steinmetz in order to learn protein crystallography.

He joined Fernando’s group of Single-Molecule Biophysics of DNA-repair Nanomachines at CNB-CSIC in november 2019. He works as a postdoctoral researcher focusing in the study of different proteins involved in DNA repair and chromosome organization by Magnetic twezers and Optical tweezers.
